This week I rescued two little cats from a home where the mother could not take care of them. This was something I was not planning on doing, but I am happy I have got two lovely gifts by accident.
A single mom with three boys and a baby girl posted on Facebook that she could not afford to take care of her little cats and was going to take them in twenty four hours to the Humane Society. I just happened to see the post and live in her city. I felt a pull in my heart and made the visit and fell in love with the little cats.
The mother told me that the little cats were “free”, but I bought them from her so she would see that I cared and wanted them to go to a good home. After chatting with her, I felt my heart broke. My mother was a single mom of three, so I could completely understand her.
I took the little cats home and within two days they kept purring and appeared so happy –a win for all. I was actually a little lonely and have been missing my kitty cats for years, so I felt God gave me a gift. This morning I just sat and listened to them play and purr. What beautiful gifts they are and I think they have rescue(拯救)me. I feel my life is filled with fun and I find myself again.
1.Why did the mother decide to give up the little cats?
A.Because her children were scared of them.
B.Because she wanted to sell them for money.
C.Because she couldn’t afford to look after them.
D.Because someone on Facebook wanted them.
2.How did the author learn the news about the little cats?
A.He saw it online.
B.A friend told him.
C.He noticed the poster on the wall.
D.He knew it from the Humane Society.
3.What does the underlined part “a win for all” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.No one lost the game.
B.The cats were loved by all.
C.The author won the cats finally.
D.The result was good for all sides.
4.Why did the author think the cats rescued him?
A.Because they were gifts given by God.
B.Because they stopped him feeling lonely.
C.Because they changed his life completely.
D.Because they reminded him of his kitty cats.

If you enjoy reading, the realm of books will become a good place which is not to be experienced in watching television only for entertainment. Study has shown how those who read for pleasure achieve more in literacy( 识字)standards and thinking abilities than those who don’t. Probably there is nothing else which will so much increase your language skills and make your imagination fly.
To begin with, language skills can be better learned through reading for pleasure than through watching TV for entertainment. At its best, television can be educational as well as entertaining, but nobody wishes to raise literacy levels by simply sitting in front of a TV box. Therefore, only by reading can you enrich your vocabulary. The more you enjoy reading, the more language skills you would get, independent of whether you like to watch TV or not.
The books that help you most in imagination are those which make you think the most. Reading for pleasure, both paper-based and on-screen, is far more beneficial (有益的)than watching TV. For example, there is always a book which is opened with expectation and closed with profit: imagination. Unluckily, some people’s love of books is being ruined by television, which results in a decline in thinking abilities.
On the whole, watching TV is largely harmless as an entertainment or information tool, but there is no better way to improve your language skills and imagination than reading for pleasure. For those who would continue to enjoy reading, there is a paradise not being lost yet.
1.What does the author mainly talk about in Paragraph 1?
A.The benefit of reading books.
B.The pleasure in watching TV.
C.The way of improving language skills.
D.The way of developing thinking abilities.
2.What does the author say about reading in the text?
A.People can get the latest information through it.
B.It is totally harmless compared with watching TV .
C.It plays a bigger role in kids’ growth than watching TV.
D.More language skills will be gotten as people read more.
3.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “decline” in paragraph 3?
A.development
B.decrease
C.disaster
D.trap
4.How is the text mainly developed?
A.By making a comparison.
B.By listing some example.
C.By following the order of time.
D.By answering some questions.
