阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
In 1978, I was 18 and was working as a nurse in a small town about 270 km away from Sydney, Australia. I was looking forward to having five days off from duty. Unfortunately, the only one train a day back to my home in Sydney had already left. So I thought I’d hitch a ride (搭便车).
I waited by the side of the highway for three hours but no one stopped for me. Finally, a man walked over and introduced himself as Gordon. He said that although he couldn’t give me a lift, I should come back to his house for lunch. He noticed me standing for hours in the November heat and thought I must be hungry. I was doubtful as a young girl but he assured (使…放心)me I was safe, and he also offered to help me find a lift home afterwards. When we arrived at his house, he made us sandwiches. After lunch, he helped me find a lift home.
Twenty-five years later, in 2003, while I was driving to a nearby town one day, I saw an elderly man standing in the glaring heat, trying to hitch a ride. I thought it was another chance to repay someone for the favour I’d been given decades earlier. I pulled over and picked him up. I made him comfortable on the back seat and offered him some water.
After a few moments of small talk, the man said to me, “You haven’t changed a bit, even your red hair is still the same.” I couldn’t remember where I’d met him. He then told me he was the man who had given me lunch and helped me find a lift all those years ago. It was Gordon.
1.The author had to hitch a ride one day in 1978 because             .
A.her w ork delayed her trip to Sydney
B.she was going home for her holidays
C.the town was far away from Sydney
D.she missed the only train back home
2.Which of the following did Gordon do according to Paragraph 2?
A.He helped the girl find a ride.
B.He gave the girl a ride back home.
C.He bought sandwiches for the girl.
D.He watched the girl for three hours.
3.The reason why the author offered a lift to the elderly man was that             .
A.she realized he was Gordon
B.she had known him for decades
C.she was going to the nearby town
D.she wanted to repay the favour she once got
4.What does the author want to tell the readers through the story?
A.Giving sometimes produces nice results.
B.Those who give rides will be repaid.
C.Good manners bring about happiness.
D.People should offer free rides to others.

Some time ago, a man punished his 5-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping (包装)paper.
Money was tight and he became more upset when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.
Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her father next morning and said, “This is for you daddy. "
The father was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found the box empty. He spoke to her in a harsh manner, “Don't you know young lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?”
The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, “Oh Daddy, it is not empty. I blew kisses into it until it was full." The father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around his little girl and he begged her to forgive his unnecessary anger.
An accident took the life of the child only a short time later and it is told that the father kept the golden box by his bed for all the years of his life and whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems, he would open the box and take out a(n) imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.
In a very real sense, each of us as human beings have been given a golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family friends and God. There is no more precious possession anyone can hold.

How to work productively at home
The opportunity to work at home can be a dream coming true: no sitting in traffic, and the flexibility (灵活性) to work wherever and maybe even whenever you want.①The following tips are proven to help people who work at home maintain their happiness and their productivity.
Get up and dressed. It might seem like fun to work in your pajamas (睡衣), but the reality is that people are more productive when they wear professional clothing. ②In addition, you will likely feel better and ready to face your day if you rise, shower, and dress in the morning.
③ Students are often advised not to study in bed, because we connect the bed with sleep. Therefore, when we are in bed studying, our mind think we should go to sleep. This causes some students to get less done if they study in bed. To be productive while working at home, it is best to have a dedicated (专门的) office or office space. If it is not a separate (单独的) room, it could be the corner or area of a bigger room. ④When you are not in your work area, you are doing something else.
Create a schedule. When you have flexibility, you can set your own schedule. This is different from having the flexibility to do things whenever you want. ⑤You will find you are more productive when you set up a structure for yourself. It may help you to keep track of what you do all day for a couple of weeks. In the end, focusing on work during work time and play during play time will keep you healthy. Sounds easier than it is, but worth all the effort.
A.Have a separate office space.
B.It is putting confidence in yourself.
C.Learn to really trust yourself instead of others.
D.When you are in your work area, you are working.
E.Whatever schedule works for you, do your best to keep it.
F.Dressing for work increases your attention to the tasks at hand.
G.However, some people find it difficult to maintain a high level of productivity.
